In 2020, a sub-committee at German Canadian FC reviewed and updated all concussion policies and protocols, to ensure the most up to date information was provided to all membership, including players, coaches, and parents. As a result, GCFC has updated their concussion information sheet, waiver form (required for all players/parents, coaches, managers, and trainers), as well as provided a variety of required protocols, policies, and resources. This information can be found via the GCFC website via:

These policies, protocols, and materials set out expectations and rules of behaviour to minimize concussions while playing sport and ensure that our organization is in support of Rowan´s Law.

ALL PLAYERS, PARENTS, COACHES, MANAGERS, TRAINERS must review all materials and sign the GCFC Rowan´s Law waiver. It is the program manager´s responsibility to receive all signed forms from all players (parents or guardians), coaches, managers prior to starting any activity at GCFC herein. It is up to all GCFC members ensure that these policies, protocols, and guidelines are followed all of the time, including but not limited to both practice sessions and games.

Rowan´s Law was named for Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome (swelling of the brain caused by a subsequent injury that occurred before a previous injury healed). The intent of this law is to prevent this tragedy from re-occurring.
